– Justice John Inyang Okoro denied receiving bribe from anyone
– The judge claimed Rotimi Amaechi caused his DSS arrest
– He said he refused to co-operate with what APC asked him to do
Justice John Inyang Okoro has written a letter to the chief justice of the federation, Mahmud Mohammed claiming the raid on his residence by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) was because he refused to help Rotimi Amaechi.
In the letter addressed to the chief justice and obtained by Sahara Reporters, Okoro admitted that $38, 800 and N3.5 million was found in his apartment when DSS operatives raiding his houses in the early hours of Saturday, October 8.
He however said the money was the balance of his medical/vacation allowances which he has received for three years.
The Supreme Court judge claimed that his travails was as a result of Amaechi’s visit to his house in February and said President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress directed that they must with the Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Abia states election appeal.
He said Amaechi told him that he sponsored Mr Umana Umana who was the APC gubernatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom and that he would have lost a fortune if he lost the appeal. The minister of transportation therefore wanted him to be on the panel that would hear the appeal and would be paid millions if he cooperated.
Okoro said he rejected the offer and prayed not to be on the panel which subsequently came to pass.
He said the APC in Akwa Ibom blamed him when they lost the appeal and that this was the reason he was being marked for harassment as he has never received bribe contrary to what the DSS claimed.
