Timi Frank, the deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said the party doesn’t have a competent leadership that can stand to support the president on the fight against corruption.
Timi Frank, the deputy national publicity secretary of APC
Frank stated this as a guest on Channels Tv breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.
Speaking on the internal squabble within the party over the Ondo state primaries elections. He said: “I don’t think there was anybody that was outsmarted in the Ondo governorship primaries. I think the national chairman did not manage the Ondo crisis well. There are so many questions to be answered about the whole process of the Ondo state scenario. When the whole process started in Ondo state before the party’s primaries started there was so much confusion at the state level.

As a party I felt as at that time we should have been able to take charge by calling all weary faction to put them together but we failed to do that not until this whole process crashed. That was when the National leader of the party asked for his resignation.
If we had an effective national chairman, it should not have taken him two weeks to prepare his response. That means he needed to consult those controlling him to know if he sgould reply Bola Ahmed Tinubu or not. As far as I am concerned it took the chairman two weeks to come and tell lies and respond to the allegations.”
Oyegun on his own part said: “Do they know how far back our association goes. Why can’t people who have mutual respect for each other have a difference of opinion. All we had was a difference of opinion, yes it was expressed a bit harshly but that doesn’t remove the basic fact that we have worked together.”
The chairman said his been together for a long time with the former governor and party leader, these are mere disagreements which he said are normal in politics. Can we say that some of these things are blown out of proportion?
He said: “Well I can tell you clearly what my chairman is saying is that was then not now. You cannot be talking about a long time ago in a generation as at today where the world has gone digital. So his relationship in the past with Tinubu as at that time is different from today and if the relationship is the same I think the party leader would not have come out to accuse him of incompetency. That’s to tell you that the relationship was then not now.
The national chairman has clearly not made any step to impress him as a person because he believes your position as a national chairman is to make sure the party all of us belongs to speaks in one voice, agrees on the same position at all times. As at today, there are issues and crisis and we must own up to that.”
On if he would be seeking the intervention of the president in terms of whatever squabbles that are currently going on in the party?
The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said: “Yes I have said this time without number. The president has to break his silence on issues that bothers the party. He should not at this point in time leave the party to resolve this internal crisis because the party itself has shown incompetency to resolve this problem.
The president needs to break his silence to come into this issue and take charge and say look if the chairman is the problem he should step aside and let us bring in a new national chairman. I tell you the reason we have some of these problems is because we have no BoT in place.

The purpose of having a BoT is when the National Working Committee (NWC) cannot resolve issues the only place you can run to is to take your case to the BoT, that is why I wish the BoT was in place and we have a competent BoT chairman. He should have been able to reconcile everybody back in place but till today as I speak we have agreed since February that we must put some of these institutions in place within the party but up till date that has not happened. That shows you that the person leading this party has practically failed.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has met with close associates of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to contain the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Buhari, who returned to the country from a three-day official visit to Germany, over the weekend, immediately went into a meeting with close associates of the APC national leader in the presidential villa, Abuja on Sunday, October 16.
