Metro cop allegedly shot 13 times

An eThekwini metro police officer’s body was found after he was shot dead, police have said.

Durban - An eThekwini metro police officer has been shot dead, police said on Wednesday.

Police spokeswoman Thembeka Mbhele confirmed the shooting incident, saying that the 36-year-old officer was found in his car on Tuesday evening in Durban's Umlazi township.

While she said the motive was unknown, it is understood from police sources, who declined to be named, that the officer had been shot 13 times after visiting his girlfriend.

He was apparently in his personal vehicle.
