Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has showered praise on Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto for his relentless effort in keeping Nigeria united.
Vanguard reports that the governor made this statement to celebrate the Sultan’s 10th anniversary ceremony on the throne on Monday, October 31,
In a statement via his media aide, Mr Sam Onwuemedor, Okorocha noted that the Sultan has always preached peace which has helped to keep the country united.
He said: “the story of the Unity of this great nation will not be complete without the noble name of the Sultan being prominently mentioned. He has diligently preached peace among Nigerians and religiously pursued the Unity of this country.”
“As the Sultan celebrates this legendary event, the prayer of Nigerians of goodwill should be that the Almighty God would continue to keep him and grant him more inspiring anniversaries in the years ahead.”
According to Thisday, the Sultan said he was worried that people who were supposed to be elder state men could make such provocative comments.
His words: “I am always worried when Nigerians who are supposed to be elder statesmen make provocative comments about this government trying to Islamise Nigeria.
“I keep on asking how? How do you Islamise a country like Nigeria that is probably 80 million Muslims (in population) but we agreed that we are 50-50.
“Are you going to invite America? Somebody so naive even said the visit of the United States Secretary of State was to strengthen the Islamisation of programme of the leadership of the country.”
