Cop dodges butcher knife wielding robber

An armed robber was shot in the leg and arrested after he tried to attack a Cape Town metro police officer with a butcher’s knife.

Johannesburg - An armed robber got more than he bargained for when he tried to stab a Metro Police officer with a butcher's knife during an altercation in Langa, Cape Town Metro police said on Monday.

The armed robber was one of 183 crime suspects arrested recently.

When he tried to attack the police office the suspect was shot in the leg. He was arrested and charged with an attempted murder.

The incident occurred on Thursday after Metro Police Officers were alerted of a man wielding a butcher's knife. The man had earlier used his the knife to rob a resident in Zone 17. “The officers gave chase after the victim identified the suspects, but one of the suspects turned on the officers and tried to stab one of them. The officer's warning shot went unheeded after which he wounded the suspect in the leg and arrested him,” police said.

They man is under police guard and His butcher's knife - measuring approximately 32 cm in length - has been confiscated.
