Aregbesola, other governors in trouble over bailout as Senate begins probe
– The Senate committee on state and local government administration have been ordered to investigate how some governors spent the bailout disbursed to them by the federal government
– The committee has sent a letter to Governor Aregbesola of Osun state that they will be coming for investigation on December 7
– Recall that last year, the state governments received N713.7billion bailout from the FG to pay workers backlog of salaries
President Muhammadu Buhari, may have asked the Senate to probe Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state and other governors over how they spent the bailout given to them by the federal government to pay workers’ salaries.
The Senate committee on state and local government administration has been sent on a fact finding mission to Osun state by the Senate president Bukola Saraki, The Punch reports.
Senate set to probe Governor Rauf Argbesola of Osun state over bailout
The committee is to investigate how the administration of Aregebesola used the N34.988,900 given to it by the Central Bank of Nigeria to pay workers’ salaries.

In a letter dated November 3rd and forwarded to Aregbesola, the chairman of the Senate committee informed him that they would be visiting the state on December 7 for the investigation.
The letter stated that the probe was part of the oversight functions of the Senate.
Recall that 23 states had received bailout fund from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to pay the salaries of their workers out of 27 that applied from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
An analysis carried out by the Independent Corrupt Practises and related offenses Commission (ICPC) revealed that most of the states diverted the money for other means.
