Republicans Release Bill To Keep Government Open, Add Money To Defense
WASHINGTON ― After Democrats spent the better part of Tuesday complaining that Republicans had locked them out of negotiations on a stopgap spending bill, Republicans released text of the bill late Tuesday night that would keep the government open past Friday and add money to the Defense Department.
The bill ― which maintains current government funding levels but adds $5.8 billion for a defense account, $4.3 billion for the State Department and $4.1 billion for natural disasters ― is something between a continuing resolution, which would simply extend current funding for a short while, and an omnibus, which would include all sorts of changes to current law.
