(LEAD) S. Korean shares edge up amid Samsung's advance

SEOUL, Dec. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares ended slightly higher Wednesday, as top cap Samsung Electronics hit a fresh record high. The South Korean currency rose against the U.S. dollar.
