“Those who grew up in Pakistan during the ’90s lost an integral figure of their cultural experience today.”
Junaid Jamshed, the legendary Pakistani pop star who became a cleric and entrepreneur, is among more than 40 people who died after their plane crashed Wednesday.
His wife Nahya Junaid was also on the Pakistan International Airlines flight with him, Dawn News reported.
Jamshed started his career in the 80s as part of the Pakistani band Vital Signs, quickly becoming a revered figure in the Pakistani pop music scene. He later turned to religion and gave up his musical career.
Over the past decade, Jamshed started a clothing line and became a recognized television personality, appearing on Pakistani religious shows regularly.
