Alex Eala yields in singles, doubles of Portugal tourney
Alex Eala fell short in her singles and doubles matches Thursday in the W25 Corroios-Seixal International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in Portugal.
Eala couldn’t sustain her hot start and succumbed to Australia’s Alexandra Bozovic, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, in the second round before she and Fil-Aussie Lizette Cabrera yielded to Lithuania’s Justina Mikulskyte and Hong Kong’s Hong Yi Cody Wong, 7-5, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.
This was the second straight time Eala lost in the singles second round after suffering the same fate in the W25+H Palma del Rio in Spain last week.
It was also her first pairing with Cabrera, where they won via default in the first round against Brazil’s Mariana Galvao Borges and hometown bet Maria beatriz Teixeira.
A victory for Eala in the singles could have arranged her a quarters meeting with second seed Vitalia Diatchenko, who thumped Japan’s Sakura Hosogi, 6-2, 6-2.
