Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia, assessed the results of the meeting of political advisers of the Normandy Four countries with the phrase “there is nothing to boast about”. TASS reports.

According to Kozak, “an exchange of views on all fundamental issues” took place in Berlin in the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the results of the Paris summit in 2019, however, no final decisions were reached on any of the points of the negotiations. The parties agreed to prepare “new principled approaches to the formation of a roadmap in the Trilateral Contact Group on a comprehensive settlement of the conflict.”

Speaking about the possibility of Kiev’s use of force in Donbass, Kozak said that “there is no such feeling yet,” since the ceasefire has been “at least” observed since the summer, and no large-scale shootings have been observed. “It would be suicide to start hostilities,” he summed up.

Dmitry Kozak added that the advisers agreed to meet again within two weeks to discuss the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. At the same time, he did not rule out that the negotiations could take place in the format of a video conference.

Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France are participating in the Normandy format. The last talks between the leaders of the four countries took place in Paris on December 9, 2019. The results of the meeting were agreements on an exchange of detainees, a ceasefire and a separation of forces in three sections of the demarcation line.

In December 2020, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told French leader Emmanuel Macron by telephone that “Ukraine has fulfilled all the agreements of the leaders of the Normandy Four that were reached last year in Paris.”
