According to the interlocutor of the publication, the American administration is discussing the future of the project with Berlin. This includes, among other things, the sanctions against the companies involved in its construction.

Commenting on the information about the start of negotiations, a representative of the German Ministry of Economy and Energy told TASS that the contacts of the German government with international partners are confidential. “Nothing new has appeared. We conduct any negotiations or dialogues behind closed doors and do not comment on them, ”she said.

In the same material, The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden was thinking about revising the policy on Nord Stream 2. Washington may meet Berlin, which is America’s critical ally in Europe, and ease the sanctions pressure on the project and its participants.

On February 16, the US administration’s deadline expired when it must submit a list of people and companies that, in its opinion, contribute to the completion of the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany. Individuals and legal entities included in this list may subsequently be subject to US sanctions.
