Former chief sanitary doctor of Russia Gennady Onishchenko assessed the prospect of obsolescence of vaccines against coronavirus. In his opinion, expressed in an interview with Vechernyaya Moskva, such a probability is extremely small.

However, this is not a reason to stop working on new drugs. If mutations do not affect the genetic code of the infection, humanity is not immune to the emergence of new coronaviruses, the doctor said.

“Mutations, of course, go, the same English coronavirus turned out to be more contagious – its ability to infect increased, but all other characteristics remained unchanged. There are other subtypes of the disease, but a vaccine works against all of them, ”Onishchenko added.

He also noted that thanks to the pandemic, Russia and other countries have learned to resist viruses, creating a technological base for the invention and production of vaccines. Even if a new threat emerges, requiring new immunity, the world will be ready for it.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian vaccine against coronavirus “EpiVacCorona”, developed by the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology “Vector”, was effective against new strains of SARS-CoV-2.
