The Russians were called the condition for revaccination with the drug for coronavirus “KoviVac”, created by the Chumakov Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Drugs. Georgy Ignatiev, head of the general virology department of the center, told about this in an interview with the YouTube channel Antonymy.

Ignatiev also admitted that the vaccine may be less effective against new strains of coronavirus. He noted that similar concerns exist for all known vaccines. “We hope that we will be able to conduct international studies of at least the sera that we receive, on those strains that circulate in other countries, in order to be prepared for the fact that the drift begins, the replacement of the strain,” said a representative of the Chumakov Center. Also, employees are trying to ensure that the vaccine “covers” as many strains as possible.

Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the EpiVacCorona coronavirus vaccine, developed by the Vector State Research Center for Virology and Biotechnology, is effective against new strains of SARS-CoV-2 from the UK, South Africa and Brazil.

The third Russian vaccine, KoviVac, was created from neutralized SARS-CoV-2 at the Chumakov Center. Its release into civilian circulation is expected in the next month. The first two vaccines – Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona – are already in use. President Vladimir Putin ordered mass vaccinations to begin on 18 January.
