QC disaster response team rescues 100 families affected by flood
Around 100 families from three barangays affected by flood in Quezon City on Saturday evening, July 16, were rescued by members of the city’s disaster response team.
Members of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) responded to assist the families from Barangays Tatalon, Dona Imelda, and Roxas who got trapped in their homes due to the flood.
DPOS Head Retired Gen. Elmo San Diego said they started to conduct preemptive evacuation in the said flood-prone barangays when rain was experienced in the city at around 7 p.m. However, there are some families who chose to stay until the flood happened.
San Diego said the flood, which reached around 10 feet, began when the water level in San Juan River rose due to heavy rains and affected the three barangays.
He added that the families were rescued using boats and were brought to evacuation centers. They were also given meals.
The flood started to subside at around 10 p.m. and some of the families returned to their homes early Sunday morning, July 17.
San Diego also said that they are going to have a meeting to discuss “force evacuation” measures to ensure safety of the families in the areas when heavy rains occur in the city.
