‘Habagat’ rains likely in parts of southern Luzon, Western Visayas  

The southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat,” will bring some rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, July 17.

In its 11 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said that “light to moderate with at times heavy rains” may prevail over Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, and Western Visayas. 

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
