Covid-19 positivity rates in 5 provinces now over 20% — OCTA
The Covid-19 positivity rates in five provinces in the country have increased to over 20 percent, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said on Sunday, July 17.
Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19.
In an update shared on Twitter, David showed that positivity rates were over 20 percent in Aklan (31.9 percent), Tarlac (27.5 percent), Pampanga (23.5 percent), Nueva Ecija (22.9 percent), and Laguna, (22.5 percent).
“In provinces where the positivity rate is very high, i.e. above 20 percent, the public is strongly advised to practice the necessary caution to prevent Covid infection,” David said.
The World Health Organization’s benchmark for ensuring that Covid infections are contained is at 5 percent.
Metro Manila’s positivity rate has also increased to 12.6 percent on July 15 from 10.9 percent on July 9, based on OCTA’s latest monitoring.
The central region’s rate has been above the 5 percent WHO-recommended rate since June 22.
