PH’s active Covid-19 cases jump to over 19K
The country’s total number of active Covid-19 cases increased to 19,873 after another more than 2,000 new infections were recorded on Sunday, July 17.
A total of 2,560 more people were confirmed to have contracted the viral disease, based on the latest data shown at the Department of Health’s (DOH) Covid-19 tracker.
This was the fourth consecutive day that the Philippines logged more than 2,000 cases daily.
Majority of the new cases recorded in the last two weeks were detected in Metro Manila with 9,713, followed by Calabarzon with 5,420, Central Luzon with 2,261, Western Visayas with 2,071, and Central Visayas with 910.
The Philippines’ cumulative caseload rose to 3,733,101, including 3,652,587 recoveries, and 60,641 deaths.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Edsel Salvana urged the public to continue following the health protocols, especially the use of face masks, and complete their Covid-19 vaccination as soon as possible.
“The best thing to do talaga is manatiling ginagamit iyong mask para maka-interrupt tayo ng transmission and at the same time continue our vaccination and boosting program para manatili iyong proteksiyon against severe disease kung mahawa man tayo,” he said in a recent public briefing.
