2023 Honda City Launched at ₹11.49 Lakhs
The mid-size sedan segment has been kick-started by Honda City in India. The market response for this sedan remained optimistic for the most part. A couple of years ago, Honda has introduced the 5th generation of the popular sedan, City. It was the last comprehensive update to one of the popular mid-size sedans. Since the emission norms are becoming stringent this year, all car manufacturers are updating their models to comply with new emission norms and blended fuel. Now, Honda has launched the facelift iteration of the City with the range starting from ₹11.49 Lakhs Ex-showroom.
Cosmetic Tweaks
The design language of Honda City is the same as before. The aesthetics are more oriented towards the bold and sleek character with a sedate-looking design. Coming to the tweaks, Honda City now gets LED headlamps, chrome sill above the headlamps and the grille accentuating its beauty, a tweaked front bumper with the re-molded fog lamp housing, round fog lamps, and black air dam at the lower portion. At the side profile, the Honda City remains intact as its previous iteration. However, the noticeable change is the re-styled alloy wheel that adds to its bold stance. Coming to the rear profile, Honda City doesn’t receive significant tweaks apart from the tweaked bumper with diffuser-inspired treatment at its lower portion.
Addition of new features
The recently updated Honda City boasts a plethora of new features, some of which are the first of their kind in the segment today. Honda City is brimmed with the latest technology. Now, the standard version of City is also available with an updated Honda sensing technology that comes with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The ADAS offers numerous of features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, and auto high beam. These features were already available on the hybrid(H:EV) version.
Apart from this, the other comfort creature equipment includes the push start/stop button, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, an electric sunroof, and automatic adjustable and retractable wing mirrors. The facelift version of the Honda City is equipped with an updated 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a refreshed UI and supports connectivity features like Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, the refreshed Honda City gets Remote control operation via Smart Phone App, Improved Rear Camera, Wireless Charger, Rain Sensing Wipers, etc
Updates in the variant lineup
Honda has rejigged the variant lineup in the updated version of the City. Now, the standard version of Honda City is offered in 4 variants:- SV, V, VX and ZX. The addition of new base variant ensures that customers can fulfill their desire of owning a mid-size sedan with the necessary features in their budget.
Meanwhile, in the hybrid version, Honda City is available with a more affordable V variant with fulfilling the requirements of a customer demanding a hybrid sedan. This is expected to be a VFM package for Hybrid sedan customers.
Changes in the powertrain options
Honda has made certain tweaks to the powertrain in order to comply with the new BS6 phase-2 emission norms. Now, it also supports E20 blended fuel. The facelift version gets the updated 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated i-vtec petrol engine that produces 121ps of power and 145nm of torque. This engine is available with two transmission options. Customers can choose from either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. With this engine, Honda City is all set to deliver a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.8km/l in the manual version and 18.4km/l in the automatic version.
The hybrid powertrain will be also on offer. Honda City is also available with an updated 1.5L Atkinson cycle hybrid engine churning out a combined output of 126ps of power and 253nm of torque. This engine is mated to an electric motor that can run on EV mode for a few kilometres. The power is channeled to the wheels via an E-CVT gearbox.
However, the diesel powertrain is discontinued due to poor contribution to the sales of the sedan.
The competition
In an effort to expand its customer base in the future, Honda has made a plethora of aesthetic improvements with an updated powertrain option, and addition of new features to its popular sedan. Honda City is ready to lock horns with its formidable rivals such as Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the upcoming Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.
