Ballenghien strikes late for gantoise
Gantoise left it right to the end but eventually grabbed a crucial 3-2 win over Victory to extend their lead at the top of the Belgian women’s Ion Hockey League.
They looked set for a rare defeat when they went 2-1 behind to the side ranked eighth in the table.
But, with three minutes remaining, Emilie Sinia got the equalising goal and then Ambre Ballenghien grabbed the winning goal in the closing minute for all three points.
And their day got even better when nearest rivals Braxgata and fifth placed Racing Club de Bruxelles shared a 0-0 draw.
The result is Gantoise have daylight between themselves and Brax for the first time with a four-point lead after 15 rounds of matches.
On the men’s side, Racing also drew with Brax with Tanguy Cosyns scoring twice in a 2-2 result. The result keeps them in the top four in the table but with a gap developing between them and the top three.
Royal Léopold got back to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Daring while Dragons hammered Old Club 15-2.
Gantoise’s men were made to work all the way but got their three points with a 2-1 success against Uccle with goals from Antoine Kina and Roman Duvekot.
