Civil Contract decides to expel National Progress, leader, opposition reps from Yerevan City Council
ArmInfo.Civil Contract, together with its accomplices, decided to expel the leader of the largest party, National Progress, Hayk Marutyan and other opposition members of the Council of Elders from the Yerevan Council of Elders, reads a statement by National Congress.
"This legally and politically erroneous action pursues exclusively
one goal: to silence the opposition and deprive it of the opportunity
to fight the harmful decisions of the corrupt and incompetent city
authorities," the National Progress party noted.
The right of oppositionists to express their political position is
one of the most important principles of democracy and one of the
pillars of local self-government. "Thus, the ruling minority ignores
the voices of every Yerevan citizen who voted for our strength," the
statement says.
Time has shown that the current government does not care about the
values it proclaims and is guided exclusively by narrow group
interests. National Progress is confident that the only issue that
makes sense to discuss with this government is the removal of the
pseudo-mayor, who is too expensive for the health and pockets of the
citizens.
