Alexey Dedov: Tehran, just like Moscow, views with concern attempts of Western countries to take advantage of situation in Armenia
ArmInfo. Tehran, just like Moscow, views with concern the attempts by Western countries to take
advantage of the situation in Armenia in order to further inflame the situation not only in the country, but throughout the entire Caucasus region. Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexey Dedov expressed a similar
opinion in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He noted that the Iranian side is ready and is interacting with
Russia in the South Caucasus region. "We have a similar position
regarding the resolution of all contradictions, all conflicts in this
region through peaceful political and diplomatic efforts and by the
countries of the region themselves without the intervention of
external forces, whose efforts, as a rule, as we see from practice,
only lead to even greater tensions," noted the Russian diplomat.
Dedov noted that Russia and Iran are interacting within the framework
of the 3+3 consultative regional platform for the South Caucasus
(Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Russia, Turkey, Iran).
"In particular, we are talking about projects of practical
cooperation: economy, energy, trade, transport, information and
communication technologies, natural resources, humanitarian sphere,
education, culture, tourism. And of course, the North-South
international transport corridor is a very promising project. As far
as we know, many Gulf states are showing interest in it," he noted.
At the same time, the ambassador said that there is another project
that is being negotiated - the formation of a
Russia-Transcaucasia-Iran energy bridge, which involves the exchange
and transportation of electricity between Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan
and Iran during peak load periods.
