Sandra Bland death investigation nears completion, special prosecutors say
A team of special prosecutors has almost finished its investigation of Sandra Bland’s death, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago-area woman died while in police custody following a traffic stop for a minor violation in Waller County, Texas. The medical examiner ruled her death a suicide.
The group, which met yesterday, says it is seeking a person who may have seen the incident unfold:
Among the information sought — but so far not found — is the identity of the person who took a second video of the arrest that was posted online.
"It would be helpful if we had the person who shot that video, if there were things that happened before the video recorded and after," [Special Prosecutor Darrell] Jordan said.
The prosecutors met with the grand jury for first time earlier this month.
Bland’s family has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Documents in the case have to be turned over to the family’s lawyers by January 2016.
