Volkswagen India Doubles Down on Safety with Standard 6 Airbags

0

Leading carmaker Volkswagen India prioritizes safety with standard six airbags in all Taigun and Virtus variants. These popular models boast impressive 5-star GNCAP safety ratings, solidifying their position among the safest choices in their respective segments.

Strong Sales for Safe Cars

This move reflects Volkswagen’s commitment to providing Indian families with peace of mind. Since their launch, over 100,000 customers have chosen the Taigun and Virtus, with the Taigun leading the charge, contributing to over 61% of sales for 5-Star GNCAP-rated India 2.0 cars. The Virtus has also carved a niche for itself as a preferred choice in the premium mid-size sedan segment. Interestingly, nearly 40% of customers have opted for the high-performance GT variants, demonstrating that performance remains a key selling point for Volkswagen.

What are “India 2.0” Cars?

Volkswagen initially faced challenges in the Indian market. However, the company adopted a successful turnaround strategy called “India 2.0.” This strategy, launched in 2018, focused on several key areas:

  • Increased Localization: Reducing manufacturing costs by producing more car parts in India, allowing for more competitive pricing.
  • Adapting to Local Preferences: Developing vehicles that cater to the specific needs and desires of Indian car buyers.
  • Focus on Growing Segments: Targeting the booming SUV segment and the still-relevant sedan segment, where they could establish a strong presence.
  • Enhanced Brand Experience: Offering a more premium experience to broaden the appeal of the Volkswagen brand.
  • Improved After-Sales Service: Addressing past concerns by providing better quality service and wider availability.
  • Collaboration with Skoda: Partnering with sister brand Skoda to share technology and resources, leading to cost savings and a more competitive product portfolio.

Safety First Philosophy

“We are incredibly proud to announce that all our India 2.0 cars will now have 6 airbags as standard,” said Mr. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India. “This decision underscores our unwavering commitment to prioritizing safety and making it a core pillar of every Volkswagen product in India.”

Volkswagen Expanding Network and Services

Volkswagen India continues to improve its offerings, recently adding new variants like the GT Line and GT Plus Sport to the Taigun lineup. They are also expanding their reach with a growing network of sales and service outlets across 155 Indian cities. Additionally, Volkswagen has focused on enhancing after-sales services to offer customers competitive total ownership costs and increased transparency.
