Police urge rally organizers not to aggravate situation and to abstain from provocations
The Armenian Police issued a statement, urging the organizers of the rally in the center of Yerevan not to aggravate the situation and to abstain from provocations. The statement says that the entire responsibility for the possible consequences will lie with the rally organizers. The source also says that the Dec 1 rally was held with violations.
The rally organizers were off the previously agreed route, heading for Melik Adamyan Street and blocking the adjacent Hanrapetutyan Street. The law-enforcers suppressed the illegal actions of the demonstrators and urged them once again to follow the previously agreed route.
"The rally organizers are deliberately aggravating the situation with provocations. The police call on the rally organizers, particularly, Raffi Hovannisian and Zhirayr Sefilyan to show common sense, and advise them to abstain from creating a situation that will threaten the safety of the demonstrators and the police," the statement says.
To recall, on December 1 the activists of the New Armenia Front and the police clashed near the head office of the Republican Party of Armenia in Melik Adamyan Street. The activists tried to lay flowers near the RPA office building, however, the police prevented the activists from approaching the building.
