Sactwu launches youth jobs probe
Sactwu launches an inquiry into the impact of the implementation of the youth employment accord (YEA) in the clothing industry.
|||Johannesburg - The SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union (Sactwu) has launched an inquiry into the impact of the implementation of the youth employment accord (YEA) in the clothing industry.
The union said an audit into the matter would be produced by February next year as it sought to determine what unions and employers in the industry have done to implement commitments made in the accord.
The agreement signed in 2013 seeks to expand employment opportunities for young people through skills improvement schemes.
“Sactwu is of the view that, instead of just complaining about the problem of youth unemployment, it is time that every signatory of the YEA must now account for what they have done to meet their commitments,” said the union in a statement on Wednesday.
Last week, the Cosatu national congress implored its affiliates to audit the progress of the youth employment accord.
Sactwu said it was taking the first step in realising that resolution.
