Swieqi resident uploads burglar's video and appeals for information

A Swieqi resident has uploaded a video on Facebook showing a thief attempting to enter his property early on Saturday.

The resident set up a Facebook page "Help Catch the Swieqi Thief, where he uploaded the video saying the intruder broke into his home in Swieqi in the early hours of Saturday morning while everyone was asleep.

The owner appealed to anyone who may recognise the thief to contact the police or send the group a message.

On the same night, two homes in Swieqi were targeted in a matter of hours.

In recent weeks a number of foreigners posing as door-to-door vendors have fuelled suspicions among residents, who are becoming increasingly fearful following a series of break-ins.

Although a new police station has been opened, this was being manned by a single officer who was not able to go on the beat most of the time.
