1. Driver’s License

A driving license is an official document which states that a person may operate one or more types of motorized vehicles, such as a motorcycle, car, truck, or a bus, on a public roadway without in-vehicle supervision.

In Lagos, you have to follow these steps:

Step 1 Attend training at an accredited driving school.

Step 2 The driving school will then present you to the Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) for a driving test.

Step 3 Pass the driving test and obtain a certificate of proficiency from the VIO.

Step 4 Complete the driver’s license application form at the Driver’s License Centre (DLC).

Step 5 Pay the license fee online or at the Bank.

Step 6 Present your application form to the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) Officer and VIO at the DLC for endorsement.

Step 7 Proceed to the FRSC Officer at the DLC for biometric data capture.

Step 8 Obtain a temporary driver’s license valid for 60 days.

Step 9 Pick up original driver’s license at the BIR Office after 60 days.

2. Insurance Certificate

Vehicle insurance also known as, GAP insurance, car insurance, or motor insurance, is insurance purchased for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other road vehicles.

You will need the financial protection this certificate gives against physical damage and/or bodily injury resulting from traffic collisions and against liability that could also arise there from.

It is not anything special to get scratched in Lagos, with everyone wanting to move at the same time, some dent to your bumper or fender might be inevitable.

So if you cannot stand nasty dents or scratches to that exotic automobile of yours, then get it insured and that way you can be relaxed while driving in Lagos this Xmas.

To get Vehicle Insurance, follow these steps.

Decide on what type of Insurance you want

Policy number*your vehicle plate number.

On your phone for instance, type AIN/061/310100*AB123YZ and send to 33125. You will receive a message telling you that your vehicle is ‘insured’ if you got a genuine insurance policy or ‘not insured’ if the policy is fraudulent.

Some other necessary documents are:

3. Certificate of Road Worthiness (Commercial Vehicles only)

4. Vehicle Purchase document

5. Proof of ownership (if the vehicles are unregistered)

6. Receipt of plate number

7. ECMR (Enhance Central Motor Registry)

8. MOT certificates (Ministry of Transportation)
