“The girl who wrote that has autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her — even though she’s not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day.”
A Michigan woman is getting a ton of attention on social media after she shared a heartwarming encounter with an autistic grocery store bakery employee.
Lisa Sarber Aldrich of Grand Rapids said in a Facebook post she went to Meijer, a Midwestern grocery chain, on Sunday to pick out a cake for a party.
Aldrich said she asked an employee behind the bakery counter if she could write on the cake, and the woman agreed. The employee took a long time to return, and when she did, presented her with the cake below.
As she headed toward the checkout, Aldrich finally noticed the cake's appearance.
"After looking, I nervously laughed and headed to check out- it didn't really matter to me that it looked so bad- I thought people would think it was funny," she wrote.
