Mati Diop`s Dahomey to be screened at 21st "Golden Apricot" International Film Festival
ArmInfo. Dahomey, a documentary by French film director and actress Mati Diop, will be screened at the 21st "Golden Apricot" International Film Festival. The festival will take place in Yerevan, July 7 to 14, on the occasion of the 100th birthday anniversaries of Sergey Parajanov and Charles Aznavour.
It is a dramatised account of 26 royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey (in modern day Republic of Benin), which were held in a museum in France. The film explores how the artifacts were returned from France to Benin, and the reactions of Beninese people.
The film was an international co-production between companies in France, Senegal and Benin. It was shown in the main competition at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the festival's top prize, the Golden Bear. It was also nominated for the Berlinale Documentary Film Award.
Atlantics (French: Atlantique) is a 2019 internationally co-produced supernatural romantic drama film directed by Mati Diop, in her feature directorial debut. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
