Two dead, three hurt in Newcastle crash
A woman and a child died, and three other people were injured in a car accident near Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.
|||Durban – A woman and a child died, and three other people were injured in a car accident near Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday evening.
ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said the accident occurred on the N11 south between Newcastle and Ladysmith.
It is understood that the vehicle rolled after the driver lost control of it.
ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, about 25km out of Newcastle, and found that five people were injured in the incident.
“Sadly two of them, a woman believed to be in her 60s, and a boy believed to be three years old, sustained fatal injuries,” Bodasing said. “There was nothing that could be done for them. They were declared dead.”
It is understood that they were ejected from the vehicle.
A man and a woman and a girl, believed to be six years old, were assessed and found to have sustained minor injuries.
Paramedics treated and transported them to hospital for further medical care.
Two other occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.
The exact cause of the incident was unknown and authorities were on scene for further investigations.
