Krejcir phone smuggler appears in court
The estate agent accused of smuggling a phone to Radovan Krejcir, has made her second appearance in court.
|||Pretoria - Amanda Papoutsis, the estate agent accused of smuggling a cellphone to convicted Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir has made her second appearance in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court.
It was a brief appearance as her case was postponed to January 28, pending further investigation. She is out on R3 000 bail.
Papoutsis was accompanied by two women and a man. They stood outside the court in a jovial mood.
Papoutsis was arrested at Zonderwater Correctional Centre in October over an alleged plot to help Krejcit stage a jailbreak. She was arrested for allegedly smuggling into the jail an iPhone that was hidden in the sole of one of the shoes brought for Krejcir.
It’s believed she had been in touch with Krejcir’s family who are in Europe, and had been asked to take him a pair of shoes.
The 45-year-old mother of three apparently went to visit Krejcir in prison to get him to sign documents allowing his Bedfordview property to go on the market.
The phone, hidden in the sole of a shoe, was discovered when it rang while Papoutsis, along with prison warders, were walking to Krejcir’s prison cell. It is believed to have been Krejcir’s son Dennis who had called from Poland.
A month ago, authorities foiled what they believed to be an escape plan that would have seen Krejcir flee the country. It has also since emerged that phones have been discovered hidden in a kettle and an electric frying pan.
Police believe Krejcir is determined to escape from jail.
Papoutsis’s case is being investigated by Captain Freddy Ramuhala, whose investigations have led to Krejcir being charged for murder and kidnapping.
