|||Duban - Three people – allegedly undocumented foreigners – were killed and a child was injured by a hippopotamus when they tried to cross the Limpopo River at Beit Bridge to get to South Africa on Wednesday night.
Limpopo police spokeswoman Ronel Otto said their bodies were found in the morning when the child alerted a passerby. Police and medical emergency services responded.
Otto said the child, believed to be between the ages of 7 and 9, was taken to Musina Hospital.
She said an inquest docket had been registered. She would not release the names of the deceased until their family members were contacted.
The Limpopo River area is the most popular place for people to come into the country illegally.
