Italian company says Malta parliament payment delay could cause it bankruptcy

0

Cff Filiberti, the Italian company which cut and shaped the stonework for the new Maltese Parliament has reported that is is facing bankruptcy and it is putting part of the blame on the Maltese government, which, it said, has still not paid €3.4million for works.

The payments have been due since December 2014 and have not been contested, the company told the media.

It said it is pressing the Italian government to intervene with the Maltese government.

The Italian company's involvement in the Parliament project was never far from the headlines.

In October 2014 is was blamed for delays in the completion of the project, and it in turn blamed those who provided it with the stone, cut from a quarry in Gozo.

Filiberti eventually filed a judicial protest against its sub-contractor because of the supply delays. The sub-contractor replied with a counter-protest and pointed out that Filiberti was late in its payments.

In March this year Filiberti was ordered to pay €31,571 to sub-contractor Q Stone at the conclusion of one of a number of court cases.
