Minister Speaks On Plans For Rail Project
The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello, has said his administration would place priority on the Abuja rail mass transit project which he inherited from his predecessor, Bala Muhammed.
Bello who stated this on Thursday, December 4, on his familiarization visit to the project sites at Wupa, Idu, Ring road station II and airport, added that he would do everything possible to ensure the project is completed in good time.

Bello noted that the project would help ease movement of people, product in and around Abuja as it would ease traffic congestion within the city.
“This is a very important project for the residents of the Federal Capital Territory and everything would be done to see to its early completion because of its utmost benefit,” Bello said.

He expressed satisfaction with the extend of job so far but charged the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to redouble their efforts in delivering the job on schedule.
In his remarks, the managing director of CCECC Nigeria Limited, Li Quigyong who led the Minister and his entourage round the sites said that his company would speed up work on the project to see its completion.
The Abuja rail project commenced in 2007 more or less as a political promise and has passed through four different ministers namely, Alhaji Aliyu Modibo (2007); Alhaji Adamu Aliero (2008 to 2010); and Senator Bala Mohammed from (2010-2015).
Valued at $840 million, the project which was meant to be operational in 2013, was conceived to provide a long-term solution to the capital city’s transportation problems.
