AFCON 2015: Siasia Speaks Ahead Of Algeria Clash

Flying Eagles coach Samson Siasia has warned his charges not to underestimate Algeria ahead of their last group game at the CAF U-23 championship.

Nigeria played a 2 – 2 draw with the Pharaohs of Egypt in the second group game.

 Oghenekaro Etebo converted two penalties in quick succession for handball decisions in the first half but the Pharaohs equalised early in the second half with two quick goals of their own.

Siasia has now asked the Flying Eagles not to lose concentration like they did against Egypt.

He said: “We didn’t play in the second half and we cannot continue like this, if we want to go to the Olympics. We have to be careful. We tend to lose concentration in the second half and have to fix it.

It was the case in the first game against Mali and the same thing happened against Egypt. It is no longer funny, it will be a tough battle against Algeria, and we have to be careful about the North African sides, they attack left and right.”

Egypt coach Hossam Al Badri said his side deserved a victory against Nigeria.

He said: “It was a difficult game for us. We were down to two goals from penalties, and we had to come back stronger. It was very complicated for the players but they responded in the second half.

“We dominated in the second half and we deservingly equalized. We have to win against Mali to boost our chances. We still have a chance.”

In a related development Egypt will file a complaint to CAF against referee Antoine Essouma, who officiated their Group B match against Nigeria.

The Egyptians are filing a complaint against the referee for giving a penalty due to a handball but replays showed it hit a defender’s knee.
