Royal Enfield to Diversify Portfolio with New 250cc Engine
Royal Enfield’s successful launch of the Hunter 350, a more accessible and compact model, has spurred the company to explore even smaller territory. According to a report by Autocar India, the motorcycle manufacturer is actively developing a new 250cc engine platform, codenamed ‘V’, to broaden its appeal further.
While the concept of a 250cc Royal Enfield has been floated for a few years, it was only recently greenlit for production. This strategic move is likely a response to rising prices across the motorcycle industry, particularly post the implementation of BS6 emission norms.
Initial details about the 250cc platform are scarce, but it’s expected to be a basic setup prioritizing affordability over feature-laden technology. However, Royal Enfield is likely to maintain its signature aesthetic appeal. Performance-wise, the 250cc models might offer a more relaxed riding experience compared to the brand’s traditionally laid-back character.
With a projected starting price of around Rs 1.25 lakh, a significant discount from the Hunter 350’s base price, Royal Enfield aims to attract a wider customer base. This new platform is expected to spawn multiple models, further expanding the brand’s reach and sales volumes. The first 250cc Royal Enfield is anticipated to hit the market around 2026-27.
