USAID to provide $4mln for supporting Armenian refugees
ArmInfo.During her visit, Assistant Administrator Erin McKee engaged with USAID/Armenia's Local Works partners to understand the ongoing challenges faced by displaced persons. We continue to stand by Armenia's vulnerable communities, working together for sustainable development and resilience, USAID Armenia reports on its Facebook account.
"Proud to witness the signing of a crucial partnership agreement between USAID's Economic Foundations Activity and Armenia's Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs," said Assistant Administrator Erin McKee.
This collaboration marks the launch of our $4 million initiative to provide durable housing solutions for displaced persons.
According to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, as of January 2024, the data of 115 thousand citizens forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh were registered.
The exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh (Republic of Artsakh) began on September 24, 2023. This was preceded by a 10-month blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan (from December 12, 2022), which caused an acute humanitarian crisis in the region, and hostilities that ended with military aggression from Azerbaijan (September 19-20, 2023) and the exodus of the entire Armenian population.
Moreover, as the National Security Service of Armenia told ArmInfo, from September 25, 2023 to May 20, 2024, 17,269 forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh left Armenia, of which only 7,138 returned to the Republic of Armenia.
