Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up to expand its luxury vehicle portfolio with the launch of two highly anticipated models – the CLE Cabriolet and the AMG GLC 43 Coupe. Both vehicles are scheduled to make their Indian debut on August 8, 2024. These additions mark a strategic move by the German automaker to cater to diverse customer preferences and strengthen its position in the Indian luxury car market.
All-New CLE Cabriolet Debuts
The CLE, a global newcomer replacing the C-Class and E-Class Cabriolets, will offer a fresh open-top experience for Indian luxury car enthusiasts.
Design and Platform
Based on the Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform shared with the C-Class and upcoming E-Class, the CLE Cabriolet boasts a striking design with elements borrowed from both predecessors. Its distinctive shark nose grille, flowing lines, and retractable fabric roof create a sophisticated and sporty profile. The interior echoes the C-Class’ layout, featuring a large portrait-style 11.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Powertrains and Variants
While the global market offers a range of engine and drivetrain options, Mercedes-Benz India is yet to confirm the specific configurations for the CLE Cabriolet. However, it is expected to be powered by a combination of mild-hybrid four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
AMG GLC 43 Coupe Returns
The AMG GLC 43 Coupe marks the return of the performance-oriented SUV coupe to Mercedes-Benz India’s lineup. Powered by a downsized yet potent 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology, the GLC 43 delivers impressive performance figures while maintaining efficiency.
Design and Performance
The AMG GLC 43 Coupe exudes athleticism with its aggressive styling, featuring AMG-specific design elements, larger alloy wheels, and a sporty interior. The performance-oriented SUV boasts a 0-100 kph time of 4.7 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 kph.
India Launch and Competition
Both the CLE Cabriolet and AMG GLC 43 Coupe will arrive in India as fully imported models. The CLE is expected to be priced above Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom), while the AMG GLC 43 Coupe is likely to command a premium price tag. The GLC 43 will compete directly with the BMW X3 M40i in the performance luxury SUV segment.
