Trouble For Biafra Agitators As Police Clamps Down On MASSOB, Arrest Members

As the agitation for the free and sovereign state of Biafra continues mostly in the Eastern states of Nigeria, officers of the Ebonyi state police command have arrested four members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), declaring the state a no-go-area for the secessionist group.

According to The Nation, the arrests were made during the early hours of Friday, December 4.

It was reported that members of the Biafra movement had embarked on protest along the streets of Abakilikili, the state capital. They had come out en masse carrying placards, flags of the group and chanting songs of solidarity as a way of continuing the protests started from other parts of the Southeast.

The agitation became intense after the arrest and continuous incarceration of the director of Radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

However, in Ebonyi state, the report disclosed that the protest caused chaos within the state capital as tricycle operators and vehicles belonging to private individuals were diverted other adjoining streets to avoid significant disruption of economic activities in the state.

In his confirmation of the arrest of the MASSOB members, the police spokesman in the state, ASP George Okafor, threatened that the police in the state would not allow the group to gain any influence over the state as the command was prepared for any showdown with MASSOB.

The development has apparently restored peace in the state capital as security operatives have been positioned at different strategic points to clampdown on the activities of secessionist group in the state.
