The Dutch man takes over from interim coach Neil Warnock who led the team to a 1-0 victory over Reading away from home last night.
However, Neil Warnock is confident that Hasselbaink has the ability to take the club ‘up a level’ when he arrives.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday, Warnock said: “He set off with a good squad [at Burton] but took them up a level, and I think he can do that here.
“If we had won last week at Middlesbrough, which we should have done, we would have been two points behind the play-offs and I don’t think there is anything to fear in this league.
“It is a great opportunity and a fabulous club. I think the squad only needs tweaking,’ he said.
“There are probably a couple of positions that need a bit more strength in depth but there is a great chance of getting in the play-offs. And once you get in the play-offs, anything can happen.”
Daily Mail reports that Hasselbaink who has been in charge of Burton Albion since November 2014, was given permission to speak to the west London club earlier this week.
Fulham were also reportedly interested in Hasselbaink’s signature after sacking Kit Symons.

QPR were relegated from the Premier League last season, and have struggled in the Championship under the stewardship of former manager Chris Ramsey this season.
Chris Ramsey was sacked on November 4 and QPR have been searching for his successor ever since.
Hasselbaink has enjoyed a very good start to his managerial career, first at Royal Antwerp in Belgium and then Burton Albion in League Two.
In his first season at the Brewers, he guided them to promotion as league champions, and he will leave the club top of League One midway through his second season in charge.
During his playing days, Hasselbaink moved to the Premier League with Chelsea for a club record £15 million fee in May 2000. He scored 23 league goals in his first season, which earned him a second Premier League Golden Boot.
