Comcast X1’s IFTTT support lets you make your own TV alerts
0
Comcast X1 set-top users can now create custom notifications on their TVs, thanks to a tie-in with IFTTT.
With IFTTT, users create conditional “recipes” that connect a pair of seemingly disparate Internet services, without having to install a bunch of additional apps. For instance, an alert from a service like ESPN or Fitbit could be passed along to the X1 box.
Here are some examples of potential Comcast recipes:
- Get an update on the TV when a Yahoo Fantasy player’s status changes.
- Get a rundown of tomorrow’s weather at a specified time.
- Get an alert from ESPN when news breaks.
- Have Fitbit tell you to get off the couch when exercise goals are unmet.
- Have an alert appear when your smart garage door opener is activated.
Users can create their own recipes through the IFTTT website, or choose from some existing ones. The feature can be enabled or disabled at any time through X1 settings, under “Other Services.”
