Expert: The Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish processes remained "orphaned" with Biden`s withdrawal from the presidential race
ArmInfo. Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race means that the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish processes are left "orphaned, political expert Suren Sargsyan shares a similar opinion.
According to him, in the current realities, he does not see any reasons that would prompt Azerbaijan to conclude a peace agreement with Armenia under the mediation/pressure of an administration that has only a few months of life left.
"Moreover, this issue will not be the key for either the Harris administration or the Trump administration, so Baku can calmly wait. The same applies to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, in which the Biden administration was interested," the expert believes.
Sargsyan is confident that the idea of concluding a so-called peace agreement before November was in the interests, if not of Washington, then of the Biden administration, since it could be used as Biden's foreign policy achievement ahead of the elections. As proof of his words, the expert urged to remember Trump's settlement of relations with Israel and a number of Arab countries before the 2020 elections. "Now these issues have remained "orphaned" because no one is afraid of Biden's pressure and no one cares what his "legacy" will be and whether he will remain in history as the person who resolved the historical conflict or not.
The rise of Trump or Harris implies a new foreign policy with new priorities and new actors. Another mistake of Armenia was the lack of diversification, short-sightedness and incorrect calculations. Wasn't it obvious that the Biden administration was as fragile as Biden himself? And Armenia's policy of putting all its eggs in one basket is another disaster," the expert concluded.
