Suzuki and Tokai Rika Collaborate on Motorcycle Rearview Camera System

Suzuki is set to revolutionize motorcycle safety and design with the development of a rearview camera system. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has partnered with electronics specialist Tokai Rika to bring this technology from concept to production.

While rearview cameras have been explored in motorcycle concepts, Suzuki aims to be the first to introduce this feature in a commercially available model. The system will employ a wide-angle camera mounted at the rear of the motorcycle, with its feed displayed on a TFT screen integrated into the instrument cluster.

To overcome the limitations of camera perspective, Suzuki is developing software to enhance the image, providing riders with a more accurate view of their surroundings. Unlike traditional mirrors, the camera system can be seamlessly integrated into the motorcycle’s design, improving aerodynamics and aesthetics.

As TFT displays become increasingly affordable and accessible, the adoption of rearview camera technology in motorcycles is becoming more feasible. Suzuki’s commitment to safety and innovation is evident in this collaboration with Tokai Rika, as they work to address the challenges of distance perception and image accuracy.
