Mehdi Sobhani: Iran is in favor of unblocking regional communications, but under Armenian sovereignty
ArmInfo. Iran's position on unblocking regional communications is very clear: the IRI is in favor of unblocking, but it should take place under the sovereignty of Armenia.
This was stated by Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sobhani in an interview with journalists on August 9. He was referring to the statement made by Baku regarding the removal of the unblocking clause from the draft peace treaty. "We are in favor of unblocking, but this unblocking should take place under the sovereignty of Armenia," the Iranian diplomat noted. When asked about the consequences of delaying the unblocking, Sobhani acknowledged that unblocking would result in an increase in traffic.
"But there should be a mutual understanding and agreement on this issue. If there is an agreement, it means that we are moving closer to peace. This is for the benefit of the region, for the benefit of the peoples of the region. We are in favor of what it is doing towards the establishment of lasting peace," the diplomat emphasized.
