Has Yerushka Chetty quit the EFF?
The EFF says deputy Western Cape secretary Yerushka Chetty quit the party, but she says it's all a conspiracy.
|||Cape Town - The Economic Freedom Fighters on Sunday called a press conference, slamming the infighting of other political parties, only to reveal that one of its own top dogs has “jumped ship”.
The EFF announced there was a vacancy for a new deputy provincial secretary, after Yerushka Chetty apparently left to join another party.
But a surprised Chetty has hit back, telling the Daily Voice she has not gone anywhere.
EFF Provincial Chairperson Bernard Joseph, and Secretary Melikhaya Xego on Sunday said Chetty faced suspension and expulsion for “boycotting provincial command meetings”, and for joining another political party.
In a statement, read out partly at the conference, the EFF states: “The Western Cape EFF therefore are left with no alternative but to implement policy process and accept the fact that the Provincial Secretary, by joining another political party whose aims are for a total destruction of EFF, has contravened the EFF’s constitution and expelled herself.”
Xego said Chetty had joined former EFF leader Andile Mnxgithama’s new political party, Black First Land First.
But Chetty says EFF provincial leaders are trying to push her out for blowing the whistle on alleged mismanagement.
Chetty tells the Daily Voice: “The reason I have not been attending any meetings is because I have been isolated from the organisation because I bring up issues.
“I have written letters to national about the way the provincial leadership is running the party.”
Chetty also says “have been threats made against [her] safety”, but wouldn’t elaborate.
“But I have not joined any political party, nor have I been served with notice of suspension, as far as I know I’m still a member of the EFF and the Deputy Secretary.”
