When Jaya Bachchan reacted to the possibility of Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha worked together again, '...it will go beyond work...'

The on-screen pairing of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha remains cherished by their fans, with their chemistry leaving a lasting impact on Bollywood. For years, there has been widespread speculation about their off-screen relationship as well. At one point, Jaya Bachchan also shared a good rapport with Rekha. The trio starred together in the iconic movie Silsila. Directed by Yash Chopra, the film was released in 1981 and depicted a romantic love triangle. It remains one of the most discussed films in Hindi cinema.

In addition to Silsila, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha appeared in several other films together, including Do Anjaane, Mr Natwarlal, Suhaag, and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, among others. Their on-screen pairing was immensely popular with audiences. However, after Silsila, the duo never worked together again. In an interview, Jaya Bachchan, the wife of Amitabh Bachchan and an actress-politician, was asked how she would feel if Amitabh and Rekha were to work together again.

As reported by Rediff's entertainment news section, in 2008, during an interview with People Magazine, Jaya Bachchan was asked if she would mind if Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha worked together again. The Guddi actress responded by questioning why she should mind. Jaya expressed that if the duo were to be cast together, it would be more of a sensation than actual work, which would be unfortunate as people would miss the opportunity to see them truly act together on screen. She also mentioned that both Amitabh and Rekha would likely realise that their collaboration would go beyond work.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan has always remained tight-lipped about the rumours surrounding him and the Khoon Bhari Maang actress. However, in a very old interview with Simi Garewal, Rekha reportedly admitted to being in love with Big B. As reported by Times Now, Rekha described her feelings as passionate, insane, and desperate, though she clarified that there was never any personal connection with Bachchan.
