Brother accused of striking sister with broken statuette

A 25-year-old man who allegedly injured his sister when he hit her with a statuette has been let off the hook after she forgave him.

Neville Carabott, from Marsaxlokk, was accused of having attempted to seriously injure his sister Bernice and with causing her slight injuries. The incident happened at their parents' house in Marsaxlokk in October last year.

The court heard that an argument between the two arose after Neville Carabott complained about shouting by Bernice's young daughter. Bernice had told the police that her brother grabbed a statuette and smashed it on the floor. She grabbed another statuette to throw it at him, but tripped and fell on the floor. Her brother grabbed a piece of a broken statuette, threw it at her and hit her on the head, causing her slight injuries.

She was treated at a health centre.

Their father reported the case to the police. 

The versions of the accused and the defendant matched, other than that the accused did not know how he injured his sister. During the proceedings Bernice renounced to any action and said she had forgiven her brother.

The parents chose not to testify.
