Bayelsa Election: Commission Praises Police Officers
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has expressed its satisfaction with the conduct of police officers deployed to Bayelsa state for the Saturday, December 5, gubernatorial election.
The commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani said that in various polling units visited by a 19-man committee to the state, the police officers were courteous, approachable and ensured a sense of orderliness at the polling stations.
The committee led by a retired deputy inspector general of police, Yakubu Muhammad reported that most locations had the feeling of security around it.
The report also said that: “The PSC team visited 43 polling units in four of the eight local government areas in the state. The 43 polling units were drawn from the 27 towns/villages in the four local government areas visited.”

It also said that in Yenagoa local government area, the team observed that there was an average of nine police officers per polling unit.
While some of the polling units had up to 21 police officers in each of them, there were only an average of four and two police officers in Ogbia, Sagbama and Kolokam/Opokuma local government areas respectively.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, December 7 declared the Bayelsa gubernatorial election inconclusive.
The electoral body also suspended the announcement of elections results in the state indefinitely.
