Senate President Calls On French Govt For Support Against Boko Haram
In a recent visit to the president of the French Senate, Gerard Larcher, the Nigerian Senate president, Bukola Saraki, at the weekend solicited for maximum support from the foreign government to wage a war against insurgency and help improve the economy in Nigeria.

Saraki called on the French government to be more decisive in supporting war against terrorism, particularly in the North-eastern part of Nigeria and neighbouring former French-colonies in West Africa.
The Senate president made this call during a two-hour bilateral meeting with the Senator Larcher at the on-going COP 21 globe parliamentary meeting in Paris.
In his entreaty according to Daily Sun, Saraki also urged France to strengthen the existing trade relations with Nigeria.

He also requested that the French government should not let the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration down in building the Nigerian economy and improve on the state of infrastructure.
On the issue of the Lake Chad project which is aimed at battling environmental challenge in the region, Saraki implored the government to also throw its support in helping Nigeria realise the project.
Senator Saraki expressed his sympathy for French people on the recent terrorist attack in Paris, urging the country’s parliamentarians to push for more support to the Nigerian government towards resolving the Boko Haram crisis, which he said posed grave danger to French strategic interest in West Africa.
Speaking further, the president of the Nigerian red chamber hinted that France could intervene by sharing vital intelligence with Nigerian defence authorities and provide manpower as well as material support so that insurgents would be overwhelmed and defeated in a short time.

Saraki in his speech also drew attention to the over 2 million internally displaced people in North-eastern Nigeria.
He said: “If we do not start thinking about how to ensure that the people do not return to abject poverty and squalor which contributed to the festering of the hate campaigns by the Boko Haram members, then we will soon face another major crisis after ending the present one.”
Meanwhile, there had been reports yesterday, Sunday, December 6, that three Nigerian soldiers lost their lives in a bloody battle against Boko Haram members in the notorious Sambisa forest.
